Located in the heart of Aldgate, One Braham forms part of a wider regeneration initiative that transformed the area’s former road system into a new landscape of public spaces and high-specification commercial buildings. Conceived as a flexible office development, suitable for either a single tenant or multiple occupants, the project addresses a narrow urban plot through a stepped volume that mediates between the differing heights of its surroundings. The composition of four interlocking blocks generates a dynamic profile and a series of landscaped terraces overlooking the city. At ground level, the transparency of the lobby and the commercial units extends activity towards the adjacent park, reinforcing the building’s relationship with the public realm.
uan Valeros contributed to the project from the early design stages through to the planning submission,
with a key role in the development of the façade. The design approach seeks to reconcile several considerations: responding to the building’s varying orientations, emphasising the distinct character of each volumetric block, and maintaining a coherent overall identity. The façade strategy combines variations in the curtain wall modulation with a calibrated distribution of solid and transparent panels, complemented by ceramic-fritted glass that provides solar control and subtle texture. In selected areas, low-iron glazing was introduced to enhance transparency around the main access points and strategically located shared spaces. The envelope is completed with a system of aluminium caps and vertical fins of varying depths, reinforcing the building’s slender proportions. The result is a façade that balances technical performance with a refined reading of the massing, shaping a coherent yet contextually sensitive presence in Aldgate.
